An extremely charming small imitation of a follis of Theodora
Lot 2928
Theodora, died before 337. Follis (Bronze, 12 mm, 0.96 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri (?). Irregular mint, after 337. Laureate and draped bust of Theodora to right; around, imitative legend. Rev. Pietas standing front, head to left, holding an infant in her arms; around, imitative legend. Cf. RIC 79 (for possible prototype). An extremely charming small imitation. Slightly smoothed, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, ex Vecchi 12, 5 June 1998, 1103.

This lovely, small, contemporary imitation features Theodora on both sides, copying official coinage from 337-340, probably from Trier.
